RROD repair the console has no power?

The console has the 3 lights on the front but i watched some videos on youtube and the people have the red ring but thw fans in their consoles stay on my console powers up then turns to red ring and the fans shut off?Why does it do this? Also i was wondering would the ifixit rrod repair kit fix this, How good is the kit? Could this mean the fans are bad?
