Why is my Polaroid a520 camera freezing?

My camera is powering up, but when I attempt to take a picture, the screen goes black and it freezes. The buttons will not work. The green battery light stays on as well as the red flash light. I have to open the battery door to shut it off then power it up again, but it will do the same thing once it is powered back up. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Please help! I have tried a new memory card, have cleaned the battery connections with a cotton swab and alcohol, and have also tried top of the line Energizer Lithium batteries and nothing has worked.

Check your lens for proper function, it may have some shutter issues. It is also possible that you have a bad flash capacitor. I had the same issue with a Samsung and needed to replace the capacitor. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. How would I check the lens for proper function? Also, how would I check and/or replace the flash capacitor? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check this guide Disassembling Polaroid a520 Lens right up to step 13. You can see the capacitor. It is soldered to the connectors. You will have to desolder it and replace it. As for your lens, the only thing you can check is that it functions normally, i.e. autofocus etc. The shutter mechanism on the lens assembly could be frozen. Check the flex cables for proper positioning as well as debris, corrosion etc.
