Replacing a speed(hall) sensor on my GE laundry center motor

I went to replace the speed sensor on my ge combo washer dryer and ordered the correct part. I received the sensor however the plastic bracket used to attach it to the motor is slightly different that the bracket that came off the motor - I confirmed that this is the correct replacement part, however the bracket had been updated. I am unable to get the sensor on the motor because this new bracket is slightly larger than the distance between the motor and fan. I'm not able to remove the fan - any thoughts on how to address this? the old bracket is broken so I'm not able to reuse it. Any body ever dealt with this issue before?

Ok I checked the part with the link you sent - according to GE my part was discontinued and the part I have is the new replacement. The plastic bracket is slight to big to put in as the fan is in the way - the old bracket did not have this issue

Ok I checked the part with the link you sent - according to GE my part was discontinued and the part I have is the new replacement. The plastic bracket is slight to big to put in as the fan is in the way - the old bracket did not have this issue — Jeff

I've changed a number of these hall sensors, but it's been a while. I'm pretty sure I removed the fan/pulley. I believe there's a hex-head set screw inside the pulley groove, roll the belt off for easier access and to relieve tension, then loosen the setscrew several turns, pulley should slide off.

Still, removing the pulley won't help if you've got the wrong (or revised) hall sensor. I'd doublecheck your part number on GE's part breakdown site (linked below), as well as posting your model here for posterity. I haven't run into a sensor that didn't fit, but there are several different p/ns in common use, and depending on which site you did the research and ordering through, could be a research error or stocking error from the vendor

Thanks for the response! I thought the pulley had a set screw but it turns out it is just a hole (maybe for alignment?) there is no hex to remove. I'm thinking the fan/pulley is press fit and I am thinking of using a puller to remove it. I'll check the part again - the one I received is WL49X20360

Yeah, I see what you mean, the original WH12X10515 subs to WL49X20360 according to Marcone, but the bracket WH12X20439 is not included and has been discontinued. The bracket included with xx360 does look completely different from xx439 according to the pics on Marcone and PartsDR.

I'd say the two possibilities are that GE changed the design of the bracket (for whatever reason) and that the revised bracket will work, or that the sub from xx515 to xx360 was a mistake on GE's part, that it's not actually a valid sub. I know that's not helpful, just trying to summarize

I'm pretty sure there *should* be a set screw in the pulley; If you don't find one there, maybe it backed out and allowed the pulley to ride up on the shaft, borking the hall sensor when the fan blades made contact. Be careful if you use a puller, the plastic is pretty brittle. You might also be able to get a flat blade screwdriver between the pulley and motor and pry slightly, working back and forth on each side, see if it works loose
