Hello,
As described in the title I can only charge my MacBook Air 2020 with an old (extremely slow) USB-A to C charger, I don't exactly know when the issue started because this MacBook was gifted to me not too long ago, but I think there were some smaller issues with charging prior to this one.
If anyone has any insight, it would be strongly appreciated!

Let's get a deeper view of the batteries health install this gem of an App CoconutBattery it will give you and us a better view of things. Take a screen shot of the Apps main window posting it here so we can see it too.
I'm suspecting the battery is just old and near its end of its life. Batteries tend to get warm as they charge the amount of charge needed can be just a trickle or quite a lot. The more charge needed causes the battery to heat up more when the system is offered a bigger straw, but if offered a smaller straw to suck the energy it won't heat up as fast or as warm. Which fits your case.

Thanks for the quick answer! I'll add the picture here, I honestly think the problem is with the USB-C board itself or the power control on the logic board.

@noah67538 - Coconut is reporting a high temp within the battery! I'm sure the battery is not healthy here.

It’s a motherboard issue, not related to battery.
USB-PD requires the CC pin in the Type-C connector to properly negotiate power levels, if that negotiation fails, the connector is degraded to pass through Type A power and signals which is basically just 5V 1-2A.

A low wattage charger shouldn't cook the battery like this. It maybe this as well. But it would be only one port having an issue. Try the other if you hadn't already.
