Do I need to take the back off to replace the Steam Deck OLED screen?

All of the YouTube tutorials (even for the OLED model) show them having to take the rear shell off and disconnect a bunch of cables/ribbons, then flip the console over and remove the screen, but the official tutorial says you just remove the screen. The iFixit tutorial looks far easier, but I'm confused and need to know for sure.
