A1261 RAM be maxed to 8GB or limited to 6GB?

Hi - I've read another post about the A1260 being 6GB for max Ram upgrade, but can the 17" A1261 be 8GB? Also, if max is 6GB can this cause issues by mixing a 2 & 4GB RAM chips? Thanks.

Carlos here is a link to the max ram for all Macs since G3's. Note the 17" must be newer than 08 to use 8GB of ram.

Yes - it works the same way, 6 GB max, one 2 & one 4 GB chip.

ok, thanks, but I've read reports mixing RAM chips can equally have a negative effect as it'll slow machine down also? would putting 2x4gb same ram types get around this or would this not work at all? thanks.

Yes you want to use the same vendor and spec's for the chips... (e.g. not one Crucial and one Kingston) the lag is noticeable to a human.
