Boot seems to need a kick start. Any ideas?

My lovely new iMac died and now won't power on.

I've checked the LEDs and the first, and occasionally the second one lights. The fans whirr briefly into action, then nothing!

Seems as if it needs a kick start. Any ideas?

Thanks all

Double check the RAM is firmly and squarely seated in the slots, verify cable connection between power supply and logic board. Run the hardware test disk it may give you more information.

Thanks. Have done that but can't run the hardware test as doesn't get far enough into the boot for that. Anyway where is that on the new iMacs?

What do the LED diagnostics indicate. Sounds like a power supply or logic board issue. I agree you should probably contact Apple Support even if you are out of warranty there could be a silent recall on this.

How new? If it's still under warrantee bring it back for repair or exchange.

If not do you have your system plugged in a good surge strip or UPS (I highly recommend it!) If not you could have been hit by a power surge or lightning.

Before we can go any further, what is the last four digits of your serial number so we can figure out which model you have.
