TC fails to boot : amber light then power off

Hi all,

My Time Capasule (1st gen) fails to start up : when plugged in, the TC light stay solid amber during about 10 seconds, then it turns off.

Does anyone know what can be the root cause and what can be the solution?

Thanks,

Robert

A solid amber light is an indication of an internal failure within the Time Capsule. Some of these models got the DeathStar HD... so that's a possibility,

Try powering the Time Capsule down (unplug) for 30 minutes minimum and then try the factory reset again. If that fails try this: Connect your TC to your computer with an Ethernet cable, with it plugged in hold the button until the amber light switches off, unplug, plug in and reset (5-10 seconds until light flashes), using Airport Utility see if the TC is working.

I have the same problem with my TC (bought feb. 2009). I have tried the suggested procedure, but without results.

So I have a useless TC - and no backup.

What does "DeathStar HD" mean?

Technicians pet name for the Hitachi DeskStar

Ok. Then I suppose, that you mean, it's a bad working HD working its way into the dark?

9 times out of 10 it will be a blown capacitor(s). Really easy and inexpensive to fix yourself. See http://htcitsmymailman.wix.com/timecapsu...
