Installed 500 mega hardrive 7200rpm won't work?

I installed the hardrive into my MacPro Notebook 13 and started my computer and all that shows on the screen is the Apple logo. What do I need to do?

Is the hard drive you installed formatted with Mac OSX on it? Do you have the OS install DVD or USB stick?

Options

You have to format and install a system on your new hard drive. Please start up from your system installation disk ( hold down the C key after inserting the DVD). Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left hand column. Format the drive and then give it one partition. Quit Utilities and continue with the system installation. If you can't see the drive in utilities let us know.
