My Acer laptop won't turn on with the power button. The only way to turn it on is by holding Windows + Space together, and it stays on only as long as I keep the Windows key pressed. The moment I release it, the laptop shuts off immediately. Could this be caused by a dead CMOS battery, or is it likely a faulty keyboard / motherboard issue?

Could be a faulty power button, a loose keyboard cable connection or a motherboard problem.
There is no separate cmos battery as such in the laptop. The RTC (Real Time Clock - aka cmos) battery power supply is provided by a feed taken from the battery in the laptop. Given that the laptop stays on (when you hold the Win key operated), it seems like the battery is OK.
Try resetting the battery and check if that resolves the problem.

Go to p.63 to find the circuit for the On/Off button (see Keyboard Conn.32 pin) so that you can test if it is OK and that the keyboard cable is securely connected to the motherboard etc

A stuck or shorted key, likely caused by debris or liquid damage, can be identified by checking for continuously registered inputs. Use online tools like keyboard-test.space or check for physically stuck keycaps. If an external keyboard works while the internal one fails, the issue is restricted to the laptop's keyboard hardware, which may require cleaning with compressed air or replacement.
