Won't recognize charging cable.

My iPhone 4 recently stopped recognizing the charging cable. I have tried this on the wall charger and through my computer and still nothing. It won't turn on at all because the battery is fully dead but if you hold home and the power button it will flash the charging sign. I don't know if this is a battery issue or a charging assembly problem or a bad dock connector. I am fully prepared to buy the parts necessary but would just like to figure it what is exactly needed. Ay help would be great.

I forgot to mentioning had done the cable swaps and ad wall charger swaps in the info. I took to the apple store and of course the "genius" gave me the run around and checked it saying you can't fix it.... But they cleaned it too. So I guess I'll be ordering the dock connector! Thx for the help.

Thank you for accepting my answer. A new dock connector should resolve the issue, if nothing else happened to your iPhone :-)

Jordan, the first thing I suggest to do is to change the cable itself. Use one the is a known good working one. then use a known good working AC adapter and see what happens. Clean your dock connector, make sure there are no broken, bend, corroded pins, and that there is no debris is the connector. Clean it with some isopropyl alcohol and a couple of shots of compressed air. If none of that makes any difference, replace your dock connector. Follow this guide to change the connector. Make sure that you check your phone after each part your replace or repair. Biggest issue is that we all do to much at once and then get lost in our own repairs. Hope this helps, good luck.

GET an inline voltage / amp meter....If you plug in a cord with nothing attached and it shows a current draw it is shorted out.

if plugged into phone and meter it should show a amperage draw. if not there is a broken wire.

Hey there, i had the same problem before, i tried everthing, change the wall connector, the wire and so on. But then i found a hammer. I smashed the phone and now everything is working correctly. I can't call, text or turn it on. I was so happy i fixed my phone. You are very welcome my friend!
