Why won't my iBook bootup with the battery?

Hello! I've recently bought a new battery for my 800 MHz iBook. It was working fine before with the older battery. Worked for a day or two with the new battery then all of a sudden it decided not to work. It charges fine and the new battery works well on my G4 iBook. Any tips?

It may be a power issue so you should reset the power manager unit (PMU). Disconnect the iBook from the AC adapter, take off the battery, hold down the power button for five to ten seconds then connect battery, AC adapter and boot the machine.

You did not specify if the iBook was working when connected only with the AC adapter with battery off ? Also you say << It charges fine and the new battery works well on my G4 iBook. >> It charges fine on the G3 or on the G4 ?

Yes the iBook does work with or without the battery. When I take the battery out and try it on my other iBook which is a iBook g4 it works fine. However, the battery does charge when plugged in to my iBook g3. The only problem is my g3 stopped working with the battery in and AC unplugged. I've reset the PMU and when I try booting up the green lights on the caps lock and next to the numlock turn on briefly and then turn off and no bootup.

Does it work properly with the old battery? Ralph

No! It did originally but a few days after putting in a new one this problem occurred. I just tried resetting the PMU and Pram and it almost booted it up. It got to halfway through the chime before cutting out. All the lights on the keyboard lit up too.

Download Coconut Battery and run it. This will tell you if it's really a new battery. We've seen used batteries sold as new recently. http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

Well I've downloaded coconut and the batteries are new. Nine cycles. I don't know what else to do. Strange though.
