How do you hook up computer with a VGA converter box?

I bought a generic VGA to Video Converter Box from amazon, a Mini-display port to VGA apple cord, a VGA to RCA component cable to hook to tv so I can watch videos on my tv, and it's not working!

I know picture quality won't be great but would be content with any picture at all. I have purple wavy lines and that's it.

Reviews for the converter box has told me enough, which switches to hit, etc, and that's it, but then again it's a generic little box from hong kong with little to no instructions. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've already learned a lot, like I need to have all the plugs connected before turning on comp, that the box is capable with pretty much only 800X600 resolution and I have adjusted my computer settings accordingly.

Still doesn't work.

Would you give us the make and model of this box and maybe a link to it?

That is a neat little device machead3, thanks

I was hoping to have at least a component video connection over a s-video, but as you imply, may be a little farfetched. is there any other hope to get that?

Way to many adapters, each one is a point source for your problem. Use a one step mini-display to RCA adaptor.
