you use iTunes to sync? What format are the songs? You have them selected in iTunes? Which Classic do you have?

You may have a faulty / corrupt hard drive in your device. I would recommend backing up the iPod, and installing a new Hard Drive into the iPod, and then copy everything back over. This should resolve the issue.
