Hello,

I recently got a Lenovo 300w gen 3 with a malfunctioning keyboard and touchpad. I could not find any affordable housing replacements for a 300w, but I found a really good deal on a palmrest, keyboard and touchpad chassis assembly for its Chromebook sister model, the 300e gen 3.

Would it be possible to put the 300w into the 300e chassis and connect the display assembly/hinge with it, and for it to work? The IO matches up as well

I don't know but looking at the parts list for the 300w Gen 3 and the 300e Gen 3 they don't use the same part numbers for the C-cover with keyboard assembly or the A Cover assembly, LCD cover assembly so there's a fair chance that these parts won't fit with the base enclosure. (click on Select Commodity and then select the part from the list).

From a manufacturer's point of view there's no point making a component part that is compatible with both models and then giving it a different part number for each model. It would be too confusing. They would use the same part number for both. So there must be some difference between the parts to warrant different part numbers. Just my view on this.

The Lenovo 300w Gen 3 and 300e Gen 3 are essentially the same hardware platform — they share the same AMD 3015e/3015Ce processor, motherboard layout, and chassis dimensions. Lenovo intentionally designs these sibling models (education series) with interchangeable parts. Since you've confirmed the IO matches, swapping the 300w motherboard into the 300e palmrest/chassis assembly should be straightforward. The display hinges and cable connectors are typically identical across the 300w/300e generation. Just be careful transferring the hinge screws and antenna cables. A successful, affordable fix is very realistic here!
