The Epson SureColor P700 is a professional 13-inch desktop photo printer. It utilizes the UltraChrome PRO10 pigment ink system. It has a maximum resolution of 5760x1440 dpi and can connect via USB 3.0, Ethernet, Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz), or AirPrint

Surecolor P700 water spill 😭😭

Hi there - after 6 years of being so paranoid about my printer I finally goofed royally. I left a cup of water on top of my printer, went to answer the door, and after doing several other unimportant things walked back into the room. The printer had the “error turn off and on again” on the screen and that’s when I realized the cup was turned over on the rear paper feed and my cat was asleep happily on my bed 😭. I immediately unplugged, gently tilted to remove water, took out the ink cartridges and have all the doors and paper feed areas open in front of a fan.

Epson’s closest certified repair place is 3 hours away, and when I called the gentleman said it’s a gamble to mail in for repair as the printer wheel is so sensitive. He suggested continuing to dry it out under the fan and a local place may be able to do a water cleaning once it’s dry. I called around and one place closer to me is willing to do a $75 diagnostic work up but said they don’t keep Epson parts in stock and usually it’s cheaper to replace than repair.

I’m cooked, right? Praying by some miracle when I try to power up in 24-48 hours it just acts like everything is normal 😭😭😭😭.

First thing I would do is the usual advice: Open the printer and soak the main logic board, LCD board (without the LCD, if you can't remove it, clean around the screen) and power PCB - it's better if you can put the boards in a ultrasonic cleaner with 99% isopropyl alcohol like this but a brush like this and alcohol is fine. Just not ideal. Power supply is sealed so it should be fine, but plan on possibly replacing it if it got compromised.

Do that, let the boards dry for 24-48 hours and pray. If it still continues and there's no obvious damage, it might be a PCB issue on the printhead if the wires aren't dirty, and all of the mainboard PCBs are passing testing :-(. These Epson units often have a fuse on the printhead if it blows it causes this "error condition" (the ones which don't often failed terminally), so pray it isn't that and it's just dirty cables. If the printhead is indeed bad, then it is not only pricey, but initial adjustment requires the Epson tool which may be hard to come by for the P700 outside of sites like this (Seriously... use a prepaid debit card or PayPal with sites like this - and verify the tool is legit). The error code tends to be a tell all, so match it with the SM Oldturkey03 linked.

Great for cleaning water damage, thermal paste, corrosion, solder prep, and more. Image
