Whirlpool front loading washer does not stop filling water during wash

I have a Whirlpool Duet Steam front loading washer model WFW9550WL00.

Have an issue that started after the last wash cycle.

During the wash cycle with a full load the water does not stop filling and eventually water starts leaking out front door (drum is half full of water and rising).

I tired a wash cycle with an empty load and no leaks or overfilling of water.

I checked the pressure sensor hose and blew in the hose to check for clogs (no clogs). I have ordered a new pressure sensor (will be delivered in a few days).

Is there any other reason why the washer would overfill and not stop filling with water when clothes are in the machine compared to when it is empty during a wash cycle.

Thanks

Hi @jay99838

Here's the tech sheet for the washer.

Run the diagnostic tests as described

Since it is overflowing there should be an F 27 code -see p.4.

Could still be the pressure switch. There's an overflow switch in the pressure switch which should prevent an overflow condition from occurring by shutting off the inlet valves.

Hello @jayeff

I ran the diagnostic test, the last error code was F 20.

While the test was running during the C02 step the water continued to fill the tub without stopping and started leaking from the door again (tub was half full at this point). I cancelled the test and the water drained out.

Looks like it could be the pressure switch then unless it is a wiring problem as shown in the F 20 possible causes section.

Doesn't explain why it works when the tub is not loaded though.

You may have to replace the pressure switch to find out.

I replaced the pressure switch, same result. Water still keeps filling without stopping during the wash cycle.

I removed the back panel, inspected the pressure hose, no kinks or holes. I wanted to take out the air trap but it looks like it attached to the tub with glue.

I blew into the hose towards the pressure switch to try and hear a click, nothing (someone mentioned trying on a reddit thread, don't know if this actually works)

Only other thing I could see that was not normal was the ground wire came off of the motor connection.

Any advice on anything else I can try.

Thanks

It may be a wiring fault or a problem with the control board.

Disconnect the power from the washer and use a DMM (digital multimeter) to check if all the wires from the pressure switch have continuity to the control board.

See p,15 in the tech sheet linked above to see where all 6 wires connect to the control board from the pressure switch.

If they're all OK it might be the control board.

Not sure if I'm reading it correctly but the diagnostics presumably use the pressure switch to initially check if there's water in the machine after 30 seconds and then again after 13 minutes and if it doesn't detect that it is full after 13 minutes it turns the water off, but I assume that it has started to overflow before this time has elapsed.
