Redmi Note 8: Charging port failure recurred after repair

Hi everyone,

I’m having a persistent charging issue with my Redmi Note 8 and would appreciate some technical advice.

The Problem: My phone has stopped charging completely. When I plug in the cable, there is no vibration, no charging icon, and the LED indicator doesn't light up.

Background:

  • This exact issue happened about 1 day ago.
  • At that time, I had the charging port board (sub-board) replaced at a local shop, and it worked fine until now.
  • Recently, the charging became "ficky" (intermittent) – I had to wiggle the cable to get it to charge – before it died completely today.

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Cleaned the USB-C port with compressed air and a toothpick (no lint found).
  • Tried multiple official Xiaomi cables and power bricks (all work fine with other devices).
  • Inspected the port for physical damage; the pins look okay to the naked eye.

My Questions:

  1. Is it common for the charging sub-board on the Redmi Note 8 to fail repeatedly?
  2. Could this be a loose flex cable connection between the sub-board and the mainboard instead of a broken port?
  3. Should I try replacing just the charging board again, or could it be a deeper charging IC issue on the motherboard?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Have you tried removing the cable, turn it over then re insert it. If it's the second daughter board it could mean a problem with the motherboard itself. Is it the original cable and charger that came with the phone?
