This will disappoint you: There is nothing inside these kettles except for a coil of wire that gets hot enough to destroy itself unless there is water around to cool it down. Sometimes there is a switch. Sometimes a temp. cut off. There is so little inside that when they go faulty it is by far safer to simply dispose of it. So, number one, the problem here is that the kettle is broken, and to fix it you need a new kettle.

I would encourage you to take it apart and see for yourself what is inside, however do not plug it in during or after you do this. These things are so dangerous with the cover off, but there is something you can learn by being curious and safe.
