Purchased two new batteries from ifixit and both units are only charging to 50% or so, anything I can do here before requesting an RMA?

Hi @michaeld91811

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery drivers in Device Manager and check if that resolves the problem.

To get to Device Manager in Win10/Win11 press the Win key + x key (both keys together) and select the Device Manager link in the menu options box that appears.

When in Device Manager, scroll down to the Battery category and right click on the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method battery entry, select Uninstall device and follow the prompts.

When they're uninstalled, close all open windows and restart the laptop in the normal manner.

During the following startup, Windows will reinstall the battery drivers

no help there, but thanks. now the battery is holding at 39% while plugged in and will go no further. Also i have the same model, also with a new battery, running Kubuntu 24.04 which is holding at 55% while plugged in.

on the Win10 unit i have flashed a BIOS update, installed chipset drivers. The Lenovo power mgmt software is apparently not compatible with this model. No changes.

Was the original battery charging OK (but not holding its charge therefore needing replacement) or not charging the same as the replacements?

If it was charging, you may have to contact ifixit

one battery (the linux unit) was toast, swollen, so i ordered a new battery for that. the windows unit was fine, but also 12 years or so old, so i ordered a new battery for that as well to sync their ages up.

yeah i figured these might be DOA, but was hoping i was just missing something. the provided instructions only seem to be for removing the old battery, nothing more in there.

Usually with replacements, it's best to fully charge it first and then turn the laptop on and calibrate them

i installed the battery and then left it to charge over night before troubleshooting. initially it was showing ~50%, and as soon as i unplugged the AC adapter it threw a low battery warning, a few minutes later it was showing 0%.
