Repair and disassembly information for AirPods Max wireless noise-cancelling headphones.

AirPods Max won’t power on or charge

Hi everyone,
I bought a faulty pair of AirPods Max to try repairing them myself.

Originally, the charging power kept dropping over time (about 3W → 2W → 1W → 0W) until it eventually stopped drawing any power at all. When I connected a charger and pressed the button, the LED would blink amber, and then it started blinking green. Even with the charger connected, the headphones wouldn’t function, and repeating the reset procedure didn’t help. If I unplugged the cable, there was no response at all, so I assumed the battery was completely drained and replaced the battery.

After replacing the battery, the only change is that the LED behavior went from blinking green to blinking amber—but nothing else improved. It still shows 0W draw even with the charger connected, and it won’t charge or power on.

In a case like this, what would you suspect as the likely cause? What parts or components would you recommend checking or replacing next, and what troubleshooting steps should I try?

Thanks in advance!

It is such a bad pair off headphones, at first they are pretty good but give it some use and it’s total crap. Bluetooth connection issues, random disconnection, you cannot manually turn them off so either you keep charging or they go dead (both are basically over time scam to drain the battery) so yea, they are pretty bad especially at 600+$ and the frustration and connectivity problems with iPhones that are literally made for is beyond me. Please do yourself a favor DO NOT BUY THESE.

To resolve this issue, I attempted replacing the following components:

1. Battery

2. Left headband flex cable

3. Charging port

4. Right headband flex cable

There was absolutely no change in the condition after replacing items 1 through 3. However, after replacing the right headband flex cable and reconnecting it to the headband, the device immediately started working.

For those experiencing the same issue as I did, I recommend trying to replace the flex cable first.
