A flash of light... Stage Lights

The unit was in for a shorted backlight I/C which we have replaced. We have thoroughly cleaned the LCD connector and the connection port (Totally free of any alien objects or dust).

Press power on, a flash of light comes from the bottom left side of the screen, and then goes off for a second or 2 (Normal) until the apple logo and progress bar appears. There is from the left side to nearly the center a slight stage light effect. Question is, what is causing the lightning flash, or is this 'normal' because the 'stage light effect and the BL 'leaking through' when the power hits?

Out of curiosity what would be the fix for the stage lights? Just replace the BL strip which contains the thin orange BL flex cable or some other fix where the light is coming through? (I know it is a very high risk repair with what is involved to get to the BL strip).

There are a few possible causes here and the fact you needed to replace the backlight driver chip implies you still have a short condition present.

The first place is a solder ball sitting across the LVDS connectors solder joints, as the pitch is so narrow these connectors where hand soldered and if the tech wasn't careful he could kick up a few balls in the process and failed to clean them off so over time the flux which acted as an insulator would breakdown. I'm surprised it lasted this long! But that's only one issue at this connector it's quite exposed to moisture as such it can corrode and a bridge can form across the pins. Here the higher current acts as a bit of a magnet! Cleaning the old solder off and reflowing is a quick fix make sure to use enough flux, and fully clean the area.

Then we have the cable and the lid areas:

Here the wires in the bundle can get damaged by the clamp or if the clamp is missing they can rub on the case edges.

And lastly, just like the logic board side LVDS connector we have the same present on the small T-CON board within the assembly which may need cleaning and fixing.

The technician does a very good job in replacing the chips so I think the issue lies within the LVDS connector and more likely the BL flex T-CON board.... Anyway, it isn't so bad and when the display is active it is hardly noticeable. Not really worth the 4-5 hours time to go over everything to check, it is a give away laptop anyway ;) Thanks for the confirmations. (We tried a different display and the problem is no longer, so it points to something in the display itself, the BL connector, although this has never been disassembled before).
