Hinge failure on the display? It's a semi common, known HP Consumer issue :-(. They're not as bad as they were a few years ago but a lot of the older models like to break near the LCD shell, not the base.

Anyway, there's typically not a good fix for it that's fully reversible - if you can get some JB-Weld Coldweld original (for CFRP Plastic Bonder is better), mount the hinge in place and then put plastic over it in place, that will let you retain LCD serviceability, but if the hinges or cable break, it typically permanently traps them and you need to replace the lid and iDP cables. You either have to fix it with JB-Weld or replace the rear assembly when it occurs.
