Battery problem or connection port?

Before my iPod ran out of juice, I went to charge it like I do every night, but I didn't hear the connection sound play. I wondered if it was the cord so I tried another one, but it still didn't charge. Then I tried my son's iPod on the cord and the cord charged HIS iPod. So I wondered if it was the connection port, since it's been charging fine, going through all day, but charging it every night. But I'm told that it's probably the battery that needs to be replaced. I guess I wasn't positive this was the reason since it wouldn't turn on at all with the cord once the juice was completed gone? Any thoughts? I am not thrilled with the idea of my husband taking this thing apart and soldering someone on...what are my options? Thanks!

An Ipod needs some juice in the battery to power on. if the battery drains all the way down and can not hold a charge, the ipod can't boot. it takes a lil charge in the battery to get past the apple logo. if it keeps restarting then your battery is DEAD. I know I have one with a wifi problem and it killed my battery.
