Very dark screen almost black, replaced inverter already

My macbook pro, model A1175 screen stopped lighting up. I can look closely and see the desktop and everything is there, behind the dark screen, but it simply doesn't light up.

It works perfectly normal. I can even tell that it works normal without hooking it up to a monitor. The screen is dark, but if I look closely i can see my desktop and the mouse moving around. The problem is that the light doesn't light up to show the monitor the normal way. Like a light behind the monitor is burnt out or broken.

I already tried doing everything on the mac forum, and I replaced the inverter, problem still the same. I know I could replace the screen but I'm looking into something cheaper. I can't really afford to but a $200 screen.

Thanks in advance!

I doubt it's the screen since you can see the desktop. Did you replace the inverter cables? Where did the new inverter come from? The machine number you gave is wrong, to get you to the correct guide please give us the last three figures of your serial number. Also please hook it up to an external monitor to rule out the GPU.

Seems like your backlight is broken, as you already suspected. You'll might a secondhand screen on eBay a little cheaper.

I was hoping for a guide of where is the back light and how to replace it. Again, I don't want to buy the whole screen. Thanks for the suggestion

i actually disassambled TFT panels but they are not very servicable and i think it's very difficult to get the right spare parts.

I was able to fix it. I can see everything now. The model is MacBook Pro401 Intel Core 2 Duo 204GHz...

I know how to get the serial number, but this one got so scratch that there is no way to recognize it.

Another problem I have: it doesn's have an aiport card...i tried activating it, unsuccesfully

This is a stab in the dark since this is a very old post, but I am having the same problem and I don't know if replacing the LVD cables will be enough or if I would need to change the whole screen, difficult to know.

If Ana Sara is reading this, could you write how you fixed this problem? thank you!
