Not that uncommon! These banks often are left fully charged or even discharged so over time the battery chemistry breaks down.

While you might be able to open the unit if you can't reseal it as it was designed it's just better to replace the bank unit Vs the battery alone if you can locate it. Sadly, most of the time it's cheaper replacing the entire unit than the battery alone.
