MacBook doesn't start up and goes to sleep [PLEASE]

Hello guys,

I'm having serious problem with my MacBook. Since fees days, it was going to sleep randomly as I was working on it. And I couldn't get it out of sleep, I had to force turn it off by holding the power button.

This morning it doesn't even start, I hear the "Dong", I see the grey apple, but as soon as the login screen appear it goes to sleep. If I try waking it the screen flash and goes back to sleep again.

I've already tried to reset PRAM, SMU, replace the battery, replace the ram sticks, but nothing has change. I can't go to recovery HD too, same problem.

I think it might be a defective sleep connector (temperature sensors, magnet) but I don't know how to check.

Do you have any ideas to help me ?

Thank you

Ben

UPDATE

I've just managed to turn it on correctly after totally dissembling it. It's still open without battery, and without the battery sleep switch connected.

But I know that, as soon as it will be turned off of or on sleep, it will never come back. Is there anything to check while it's on ?

How can I run a Hardware test ?

The problem is not resolved as it's working just for a moment

Thanks for your help

I've also managed to get the kernel.log file to try to identify the reason of the problem. Here is an extract of what happens every time I try to wake it.

I noticed the sleep cause is always 0 and the shutdown always 5.

Sometimes, I get hundreds of this error in a row : SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR F1Mn kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89)

I'll send the entire log file to anyone who would need it to help me.

Thank you

Ben

Is your MacBook warmer then normal while in use? Please let me know.

Meanwhile, you may go to System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items. Please remove all the Apps that are there currently.

If you have a good backup of your Admin account, please create a new Admin User account and then delete the existing one. Let's see if that resolves the issue. Let me know if still the same issue persists.

Hello Puru.

No it's ont warm at all. I've tried to run it with the back lid opened and it was warm as it should be. When I manage to turn it on until desktop, I checked iStat pro and it confirmed the temperatures were around 45 Celsius.

I'll do what you told me as soon as it turns on.

I runned an AHT (short and complete) they have found nothing.

I'm downloading Lion again from the Mac app store, I'll install it on an external HD and boot on it. But I don't think it is a software problem. It's more likely to be the magnet. But I really don't know how to prove it.

I've made an appointment at the Genius Bar next tuesday. As they only have 20min for me I'd like to know where the problems comes from to point it directly.

Is there any way to disconnect the magnet ? If I disconnect the screen maybe I would be able to determine if the MacBook goes to sleep ?

Change your hard drive. This should address your issue.
