Dishwasher popped and smoked, then lost all power
Hi:
Does anyone know what it means if a dishwasher makes a "pop" sound, gives off smoke and then won't power up?
Thanks, HH
Is this a good question?

Unplug the machine before attempting and diagnostics and/or opening.
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dishwasher, burns and breaks the connection. If that's the problem, the wires must be repaired/replaced as necessary. If that's not the problem, check the wiring to the door switch, the wiring between the door and the lower part of the dishwasher, and the wiring to the timer. Repair any broken, burned, brittle, or defective wiring, using the proper appliance-grade wire and connectors.

Sounds like one of the components on your power board has shortcircuited. Possibly on of the caps. Best way to find out more, would be be taking a look at the board and post a picture on here :)

Or a fuse, I'm with oldturkey, follow his advice. Sounds like a fuse blew, fortunately those things cost a few bucks or less to replace, generally. (Could also be a capacitor though, as oldturkey said, those are slightly trickier to replace, but not extraordinarily difficult and they are very cheap)
