The battery is unrecognizable. My laptop will refuse to charge because it states that it will not charge unless its an authentic dell battery. Do I return my battery back to IFixit?

All of iFixit's parts have a very good warranty; your battery's is good for a year, so assuming it's been less time than that, then yes, you should contact them about a replacement. In my experience they do a great job at sourcing quality parts, but of course it's always possible a bad one slipped through the cracks. The one time I had an issue with a battery they replaced it no questions asked.
I might suggest you double-check that your old battery is still recognized to rule out any kind of motherboard issue. Also, I've seen cases where a battery has been upgraded and required a BIOS update before it was recognized, so you should try that before returning it.

Dell's firmware is good at catching clones since the E series when they moved to the custom TI battery gauge IC :-(. The D series was easier to trick, but the E series is a royal pain. I had an iFixit battery in my E7440 some years back and no matter what I did, the thing would always get caught to the point I had to send it back for a refund. I would see about returning it if possible and getting the OEM Dell pack for your machine from https://www.parts-people.com/ -- we try and mention iFixit's parts here as much as possible, but Dell batteries are NOT one of them I will buy an iFixit part for because of how particularly good the Dell BIOS is at catching it.
If the machine is 3-4 years old, the only way to be sure is to bite the cost and buy OEM :-(. Maybe at 5-6 years they get it right where they work, but within the 5 year lifecycle, it's always a pain point. Dell is selling more parts directly because of RtR, which is one reason I shied away with how good their clone detection is. With RtR, the door is back open for Dell. Situation will always be a gamble, but it's more known once the machine is 5-6 years old how to trick the series.
