Dryer shuts off mid cycle and makes a ticking sound.

My Whirlpool dryer is shutting off mid cycle and is making a “ticking” sound, like it’s too hot. I recently removed the back and cleaned out the lint from the vent tube. It was packed with lint/animal hair. When I put it back together it completed three cycles with no issues. Now it’s doing the same thing that it was before I cleaned it out.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi @jazzymomma

Here's a service manual that is also applicable to your dryer.

Go to p.5-2 (70 of 100 pdf) to view the procedure for Activating Service Diagnostic mode.

Once in Diagnostic service mode, go to p.5-5 (73 of 100 pdf) for how to display any Fault/Error codes that may be stored by the machine .

If there are any codes stored, the code, their description and recommended test procedures are shown on p.5-5 → p.5-7.

If you find the problem and its a faulty part that needs replacing, here's the parts list that is useful.

Locate the wanted part in the list and note the part number that is shown for it. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.
