A more affordable, purely handheld version of the Nintendo Switch game console, with integrated Joy-Con controllers and a slightly smaller screen. Released September 20, 2019.

Console Freezes in an unusual way and then refuses to turn back on.

As the title says. Nintendo switch lite console that freezes strangely.

When turning the console on, after an indeterminate amount of time the console will freeze. It could be 5 seconds when it's still on the Nintendo Switch logo, or 1 minute after trying to start a game, or anywhere in between. Not longer than about 1 minute or so, in my testing.

The "freezing" isn't usual. When it freezes, if any animation was playing, that animation will continue to play indefinitely. I have not been able to successfully get it to freeze on any sound. Either the sound finishes and no new sounds continue, or the sound finishes just before it freezes every time. I have not been able to successfully boot into anything with music to verify if it continues playing music as it does animations.

When it freezes, no inputs of any kind work, except the power button. Pressing the power button for any length of time instantly turns the screen black, and it will not turn back on. This persists until the console has no power at all, either from battery drain or disconnect. After the system has power again, it can be turned on and this process repeats.

None of the solutions online for system freezes do any good. Nothing changes.

I suspect some kind of corruption or issue with the emmc, but cannot be sure. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi Justin!

I agree, it does sound like there are issues with the EMMC.

Did you already tried to completely format it and reinstalling it again?

In the worst case you need to check/repair the EMMC or replace the motherboard.

It also could be the ram causing those weird kind of issues, so you might want to check that one out as well.

We were able to successfully reinitialize while keeping personal data. After a few attempts of disconnecting the battery, reconnect, boot into maintenance mode, etc., it finally booted long enough (yes, it did freeze similarly in maintenance mode a couple times) to successfully do that process. After that, it booted to the "setup your console" screen and froze several times when trying to set the data/time/language/etc.

I appreciate your second opinion. Unfortunately removing/repairing smd chips like this are beyond our ability to do, so this is the end of the road for us. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't something within my ability that I was overlooking before I gave bad news to my client.

Hi Justin @erelectronics !

Well, you've tried everything you could! It is something on the motherboard that stopped working or starting to die. Could be the EMMC (which is most likely) or the RAM.

Repairing those are really difficult AND you need the right equipment to do this, and the parts... I would just replace the motherboard, that should fix it.

Part: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32568032881... (not cheap, but it may be a option for your client).

You can also ask: https://www.gamersrepair.com/ if they have a motherboard available. They are located in the US and in my experience their service is great!

Please let me know if you have any questions or whatsoever!
