Repair guides, manuals, and troubleshooting help for the FixHub Power Series | Smart Soldering Iron. Released in October 2024.

Can I use a generic 20-40W USB-C charger to run this soldering iron?

I bought the FixHub Smart Soldering Iron from them at a booth at a Makers Fair. The guy didn't mention that I had to use their overpriced power supply but did try to sell me one. When I just wanted the iron he didn't dissuade me... But I can't find the answer to this question on their site - they only address their own power supplies in all the literature (etc.). Anyone know ?

Hello,

the FixHub Smart Soldering Iron is designed to work at 100W, so if you’ll try to connect something smaller you’ll probably get less power, which means less heat and which means you won’t be able to solder much. I hope that answers your question.

I figured that... I use a 40W iron to solder LED strip lights all the time, and it is plenty. Their smart power supply allows lower Wattage "peak" settings, so it makes sense. Finding a 40W (or greater) USB-C charger is the answer... I just didn't want to damage the Iron by going rogue !

Have you been able to find a charger that works? I'm trying with the iFixit Fast Charger but i get the iron to blink blue lights 3x and never heat.
