Can't boot system even from internal dvd or external

Hi Guy's,

i suspected my sata hdd had failed as the system would no longer boot. I have since replaced the drive with a seagate 1tb. But can't get the imac to boot from internal dvdrw using the original imac disc, and by holding C before startup. I have also tried to connect two different external dvdrw, one usb and one firewire but neither will boot, i even tried my leopard disc. I have also replaced the ram. Any help would be great.

Cheers

This may not be a hard drive issue. Try removing the hard drive and booting from the original system installation disk from both the internal drive and the Firewire external drive. Do not use the USB drive. Do you get a tone on startup? Any sounds like beeps? Any color on the screen? Try unplugging the machine, press and hold the power button for five seconds then plug it back in and give it a try.

Hi Mayer, yes tried booting from the original disc but just get a white screen, it ejects the disc after a while from the internal drive and nothing happens when the disc in placed into the external firewire drive. It always chimes on startup.
