You may be lucky here - Hyundai/Kia has a flimsy child lock mechanism on so many of their cars after 2014. You use a key (yes, really). Ran into it on an Optima from 2015, where it trapped an adult, and checked the child lock, and it fixed itself when I "locked" it and then "unlocked" it - seriously, try that first. Might save you some money.

If the child lock trick doesn't help you, it's the inner door handle. Without an exact year we can't find one, but look up "[Model year] Kia Sportage [affected door] door handle". The door card will need to come off, but once it's off you should have access to the mechanism. Same with the SM - without the year we can't find an exact SM - Kia/Hyundai routinely refresh "old" chassis codes with new parts all the time - it's usually the front end, but sometimes it impacts the interior. Look up "[Model year] Kia Sportage service manual" and pray it's been leaked. Kia doesn't readily release them, so you might need to find out which Hyundai Kia modified and use that SM.
