only come on when it was plugged in

can anyone help me, im 17 and have no idea what to do and have the exact same problem.

my 3gs was working fine and bought it used in November, then a few days ago it turned itself off and would only come on when it was plugged in. when it finally comes on, it says that activation is required and that i need to plug it into my computer however when i unplug the phone it goes off and therefore iTunes wont detect it?

what should i do? does anyone know what the problem is?

please please please help me!!!!

I have an Iphone 3GS and I just bought the new battery from I fix it and this happened to me too.

heather, the first thing I would suggest for you to try, is to charge your phone on an AC charger. If it wont hold a charge, or turns off when you unplug it, it is most likely the battery that needs to be replaced. If nothing else, it will provide you with a clean, known good starting point for further trouble shooting. Here is the guide and the battery is available at many places like this.
