Replaced battery, new battery doesn't hold charge & quickly depletes

I replaced my Pixel 7 battery, and the new battery will not charge past about 20%, depletes at 1% every couple seconds, and the top left right quadrant (looking at it with screen facing front) gets hot very quickly. What could be causing this? Damaged thermal pad? Battery not seated correctly?
