The 5th Generation iPad Air was announced on March 8, 2022. It features the M1 chip and 5G connectivity.

Slow charging battery after replacement

I recently changed the battery on my iPad 5th Gen. (A2588). I ordered the replacement Part from ifixit (Model A2288 Battery for iPad). The battery works but it doesn't fast charge. It tops out at 12 W instead of 27 W that i see with the old battery.

The ifixit battery number is A2288, the Original battery has the number A2742.

Is there a trick or a software lock?

Your iPad 5th gen uses battery A1484. The one you got (A2288) is not the right part, so the charging controller limits it to ~12 W. There’s no software lock — just a hardware mismatch. Contact iFixit and ask for the correct battery (A1484).

I think you missunderstood something. I have a iPad Air 5 Generation (A2588) not a iPad 5. But i Think you're correct with the missmatched hadware. It's just odd that the replacement battery is advertised as compatible with the iPad Air 5.
