My touch screen is not working either with my finger or pen.

All drivers are updated, but I notice that windows does not even think my laptop is touchscreen. There is a driver for a wacom input but the hardware is not attached? Please reconnect? Golly the machine is only 8 months old and had very little use. Still under warranty - but so far I've only talked to machines. Anyone else out there with a similar issue? - be good to hear.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @annenicols24446.

If you're not using a Wacom pen then you will get that message.

Check in Device Manager → Human Interface Devices → right click on the I2C HID device listed → Properties → Power Management and check if the setting "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" has been selected.

If it is, uncheck it → OK.

Close all open windows and then restart the laptop in the normal manner and check if the touchscreen now works OK

Good thinking but unchecking did not fix the problem. My machine is under warranty so the Lenovo people will check it out after the weekend. Thanks for your effort.

Well You can try the following it might help you in fixing the issue:

Check for Optional Updates

  • Settings → Windows UpdateAdvanced options → Optional Updates → Driver updates.
  • See if a touchscreen or Wacom driver is listed.

BIOS/UEFI Check

  • Reboot and enter BIOS (usually F2, DEL, or ESC).
  • Look for any Touchscreen or HID device options and make sure they’re enabled.

Reset Embedded Controller

  • Shut down laptop fully.
  • Unplug charger and battery (if removable).
  • Hold Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Boot again and check.

Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Many OEMs (Dell, HP, Lenovo) offer built-in diagnostics from the boot menu (F12 or F10 on boot).
  • Run a touchscreen or system diagnostics test.

It sounds like there may be a driver or hardware detection problem causing your laptop to not recognize the touchscreen hardware. Windows might not even recognize a "HID-compliant touch screen" if Device Manager does not list it under Human Interface Devices. The Wacom input driver indicates that although the system is unable to recognize the panel, it anticipated a pen/touch interface. Try a BIOS update or complete system reset; occasionally, the firmware disables the touchscreen. It's worthwhile to insist on assistance from a qualified technician because your laptop is still under warranty and is only eight months old. Others have experienced similar detection problems, so you're most certainly not alone.
