What to do if there is no power + it's not the power supply (or cord)

One day I came home, and my iMac would not turn on. There was no power surge. I decided to try to fix it myself after finding out that it would cost around $900 to "fix" with no guarantee of results, let alone data recovery.

To start, I assumed it was a faulty power supply and replaced it, but the computer would still not turn on. LED #1 flashes and changes speed when the power button is pressed (this was the same as the original power supply, actually), but that is all. No sound or anything. I also verified the power cord separately.

What should I do next? Replace the logic board? Would I lose all data? (I think I've recovered it all from a backup, but still if I could get my computer back I would be so happy.)

So thankful for the advice and expertise here!

Sadly I'm suspecting your logic board has a problem. It might be as simple as a burnt Capacitor or it could be deeper. Depending on your skills you might be able to fix the logic board. I would at least see if you can identify the damaged component if you can visually.

Can you tell us where a-bouts you are country and nearest city, maybe we can aim you to someone with the deeper skills and tool to fix your logic board. Otherwise replacing is also workable too.

As far as recovering your data depending on the version of your logic board (SATA drive only or SATA & Blade SSD (Fusion Drive) you will need to match what you have or get the dual port board if you want to enhance your setup if you only have the SATA version.

Thank you! I will take a look and see if I see anything obviously wrong with the logic board and go from there. But, would replacing it, should I find one and do that, wipe the hard drive clean?

I'm in the DC area.

Thanks again!

@lauravepre39993 - The data is stored within removal drives. Either a SATA drive or within the Apple custom PCIe/NVMe Blade SSD. So you only need to transfer them. Review this guide iMac Intel 21.5" Retina 4K Display Logic Board Replacement before you start.
