PowerBook will not bootup after replacing optical drive?

I just installed a new optical drive to replace a bad optical drive. Now my Mac Book will not boot up. I can here the fan running for a few seconds but the power light does not light up when I press power button. I took the new drive out and then turned the Powerbook on and it powers up fine. I'm not sure if I got a defective drive or if there is an issue with the logic board's optical drive connection.

Please give us the model number on both drives. What's the source of the new drive and is it new or used. What the last three figures of your serial number? Thanks

It's a used drive but it had been ran through test before being sent too me. "Super Drive DVD RW Double Layer Burner UJ-867" for a Mac Book Pro A1150. But yes I guess if could be the drive. I'm new to Mac so is it normal for the computer to not boot up if a defective optical drive is installed?
