A boombox speaker system manufactured by SONY.

CD Drive seems to be borked and won't play past 0:34

So, I salvaged a ZS-BTG900 from an abandoned home (don't worry, yes, everything was free) and everything seems to be working fine down to the Bluetooth, but the CD drive is disappointingly failing at 30-36 seconds playtime.
Tried with a CD and a burned (audio) CD-R. The CDs are not scratched. They play normally up to then. Weirdly enough, the drive seems to be recognizing the tracklist and total playtime of the CDs I use but still refuses to play T1 past 0:34. Skipping ahead doesn't work at all. The drive recognizes when it's open and shut and sometimes doesn't respond to button presses for a little while.

Could this possibly be a bad cable or a defective/dirty track? The boombox's CD drive was rarely used when I got it. Can someone help me out here? New around here. :)

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi @sophi_a

Seems as though the laser lens shuttle is not moving in past a certain point on the disc.

The shuttle carries the lens and as the disc spins, the shuttle moves along two guide rails so that the lens picks up the data off the disc.

The tracklist etc information is located in the TOC (Table of Contents) area on the disc which is located on the lead in of the disc.

Could be that the shuttle rails need some cleaning to remove any grime etc from non use.

The other problems could be a loose cable or faulty buttons. Whether it's a mechanical or electrical problem with the buttons would have to be checked out.

Here's the ifixit SONY ZS-BTG900 guide, that may help.
