Galaxy S22 plus USB-C wore out, new one won't recognise connections

I often buy year old phones to use, but the last couple have had issues with the USB-C wearing out. I started having issues connecting to android auto on this S22 Plus so I ordered a replacement connector, But it won't fast charge through usb, or recognize my usb wireless microphone which I need for some content creation. I am weighing trying another replacement, or giving up and phone shopping again. I have repaired a few phones in my time and swapping a usb isn't so hard, but now I am not sure these newer phones do well with replacement parts. Am I wrong? I did get a part specific for my model, but it has limited finctionality

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @matthewkohl

Did you just replace the USB-C connector or the USB-C charge port board?

If the charge port board there are different model boards for different versions of the same model phone - it depends on the model number of the phone i.e. SM-S906B, SM-S906U, SM-S906W etc.

If only the USB-C connector has it got the exact same number of pins in the same position as the original. Not all 24 pins are necessary but the ones used for fast charging, PD etc are, so it may only be a 12 pin connector or something else

@jayeff I replaced the charging board for my S906U

@matthewkohl

Sorry to be so pedantic but it does show S906U_IFSUB on the board? (new and original)

I've been caught out before as was told that the board was for a particular S22+ model variant and it wasn't, as it didn't show anything

Yes, I opened it up and checked. Also swapped the oe one back in with hope my mic might connect but usb-c is a junk connector as far as longevity imho

@matthewkohl

It mightn't be the USB-C charge port board that is the problem. It could be on the mainboard

As it's a year old and presumably a used phone, do you know the history of the phone? Anything could have happened to it.

You may need to get the schematics and use them to find out what's wrong.

With all of the results listed you will need to sign up and then perhaps they'll charge for the download. (I don't know if they do or not).

I couldn't find any free downloads of the schematics online unfortunately.

I've never had a problem with USB-C connectors but it depends how you treat it I suppose
