Why does my wifi not come up (the camera doesn't work either)?

Why does my wifi not come up (the camera doesn't work either)? It's a 2.53 GHz Mid 2009 model.

I have a distinct feeling I forgot something...A friend of mine spilled coffee on her MacBook Pro 13 inch and gave it to me. I replaced the keyboard (the bottom case) and everything works accept the camera and the wifi...(the wifi acts as though it's not there at all!). I have the distinct feeling I forgot something!

Update

OK, now that I'm positive that the cable behind the clutch cover is the problem I have two questions.

  1. Can you remove the clutch cover WITHOUT removing the glass?
  2. If so, where can I get a replacement cable?

Update 2

I have removed the clutch cover and found the other end of the cable. It splits into two, one goes into the airport (I think) and the other goes behind the glass, I assume that goes to the camera. While the computer was on, I wiggled the cable on the logic board end and got the camera to turn on.

Conclusion so far: I am 100% positive the cable is broken. I'm 50% sure I'm not going to be able to replace it without removing the glass. Any help on this would be awesome!

Update 3

OKAY after obsessing over this for the last 2 hours I kept messing with the plug on the logic board until the camera turned on...now it works and so does bluetooth. Are my troubles finished there?! NOPE, the wifi still isn't on...well I'm going to have to put this down at some point it might as well be now. Any updates...comments...help...is greatly appreciated.

+1 for putting up with us, and also for posting your diagnosis attempts along the way.

Following up on your 'update 3', it is probably worth it to replace the cable if you can find it. Even though the BT and camera are working, unless there is physical damage to the AirPort card, it is probably fine and the cable is causing the issues. Good luck :/

The guide for removing the LCD for your machine will be the best guide to use for accessing that cable. Unfortunately, you will need to remove the glass to replace that cabling. iFixit does not currently have that cable but is part of the display assembly for your computer. That might be a difficult cable to find, so good luck!

Hi Dov: As the possibility of having to remove the glass from your display, which isn't that bad to do, May I recommend you contact DT&T Services at 1-800-622-7977. They have a quick turn around time and fair prices. I have clients who have used them and have been very pleased.

(sorry for before, my bad)

If you decide to try and fix it yourself please know if the break is in the screen clutch area you will need to install a new wire or a section at the very least because the tolerance is very close in that area. The screen comes off with a heat gun but you have to make sure you do not over heat it or under heat it and break the glass. I have removed one and it was do-able but not enjoyable.

good luck

I really don't want to do the glass...I have the feeling I'll break it. I still haven't found a replacement cable though on the internet. Anyone know if that is possible to buy?

I have bought a keyboard and other stuff from these folks before. So you do not have to pay them to put it in. If they have it, they will sell it to you. But if it is more than just that cable then you start chasing the problem with $ after $. Just a thought.

You mean the DT&T people?
