My laptop is a stone. A gravestone for my education.

My laptop is unresponsive. There are no lights whatsoever. I have already tried everything suggested to me with zero success. I NEED MY LAPTOP FOR SCHOOL IT IS URGENT HELP My parents tried calling IT support-they said the motherboard was at fault.

It would be good to know what you tried. Lacking that info, any response is a pure guess -- and there are many possibilities including the MB.

I tried force restarting, unconnecting+reconnecting, checking the power sources, basically everything else that doesn't involve taking apart the actual computer, since I'm only 12 and it's a $1600 laptop.

If you have verified the voltage from the adapter, plugged in the adapter and there is no indication it is charging, then it is something internal. Unfortunately, my friend, it sounds like it is going to require a hands on tech to figure it out.

It is possible it is still a bad adapter even if you read the right voltage, if the failure limits the voltage when plugged in. Only checking it on another computer or using another adapter will verify.

@aidenguo start off with the easy things. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from your computer. Disconnect all external devices from the computer. Now hold the power button depressed for about 30sec-1min. Reapply the AC power adapter and see if your computer does show any sign of life.

Next you want to check your power supply. Make sure it has the proper voltages. Use the Lenovo Ideapad 520 15ikbr Hardware Maintenance Manual i.e. page 21 for the power adapter check. Check to make sure that connectors are not bend etc. Check the DC-in jack of your laptop. Make sure there is no corrosion, debris etc. that prevents it from working. Clean it of any debris etc. use a few puffs of air to clean it out. If none of this works, get an ammeter and see if your laptop draws any amperage from the charger. After that, you need to check and see if your motherboard even gets power. For that of course, you need to open it up. Post some good pictures of what you see. That way we can see what you see. Of course, it is also possible that this is a bad RAM module or a bad LCD. So remove the RAM, clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. Do it gentle so as to not destroy the module. Replace it and restart. If you have more than one module, remove those and just leave one connected.

Connect and external monitor and see if that shows anything different when your laptop starts up.
