Repair guides, support, and troubleshooting information for MacBook Air models with 13-inch displays.

What is the cause of white corners on the display?

What is the cause where the corners of the screen have gone white, similar to the picture I found on google images. I am just curious to know what could be the cause of this? I guess it has something to do with humidity or moisture as I have seen videos and posts that 'pinching' the screen for a few seconds' or "heating it up" can make it 'go away, but in my case none of these methods had any effect. Of course replacing the screen would fix it but that is not really an option on these very old units and is not my concern.

@danj WHY are you editing this post to a specific model (again) ?????

This issue happens across multiple different models.

Answered! View the answer I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The reason is so people can also find this Q, you need to post each model separately. Otherwise your issue is not findable!

Think of a filing cabinet, just dumping everything in without any order. Now where was my passport I threw in?

The site is based on folders to hold things here we work on models Airs and Pro’s are in different folders and we go deeper into explicit sub groups. So please alter your Q to the correct group an as you have the very different models post a second if the one answer is not enough for the other.

@danj This happens on many different models, so mac laptop is fine.

by

@livfe - Very few people look at that level, so your Q and this answer is lost in the clutter.

Your Q is importantly to You! But the site also tries to help others who also face the same issue. Which is why leaving things generic just becomes lost.

Just look for your self Mac Laptop level where is your Q? Not here! To the bin it went.

by

@danj Not really, because most people would likely do a google search for their issues and ifixit usually comes up at the top of the search results. No particular model, happens on many different mac laptop models so it is fine. I edited the question so it no longer points to the 2 models I have in front of me with this, but in the past I have seen it a lot on a variety of models. As it is is fine.

by

@livfe - Not with this one as the lack of a explicit ID sends it to the bottom.

Luckily there are other Q’s on this problem which can be found.

The light defusing sheets within the display have warped so the light is not evenly dispersed across the LCD panel. Heat and moisture are seen as the cause of this.

Answer makes sense, I had a feeling it was something with the backing sheets. Thanks!

@danj We know that trying to remove the LCD to replace the sheets has about a 1/1000 success rate, so, would using a heat gun on the corners possibly 'bend' the defusing sheets back into a 'normal shape' ? I did give this a 'quick' try, and yes the area does return to normal but after a few moments it goes back to 'white' :(

by

@livfe - I've done it quite a few times years ago with fresh sheets without any issues. Reusing old sheets is a hit or miss!

Once the sheets have curled there is no way to salvage them.

by

@danj Removing the LCD is near impossible, they are like sugar glass, and taped down to to display case, love to see how you did it... pity you have done all these repairs but never made any guides.....
