Screen backlight flashes once then no backlight

Hi,

I have a ActivPanel that seems to be acting up. After powering off and powering back on the display flashes its backlight once then turns off. After looking through the backlight with a flashlight I can see the pixels are working.

Any pointers would be significantly appreciated. Any advise is great advise. I am leaning towards a power supply failure but none of the caps appear bad.

I am happy to provide pictures if anyone requests.

Thank you!

@compjinxmagic explain this "After looking through the backlight with a flashlight I can see the pixels are working" a bit better. Not sure what you mean working pixels etc. If you mean you can see shapes, forms, etc. when you shine a light at your panel, then this issue is a backlight issue. Most likely not from the power board but from the backlight array.

Hey @oldturkey03!

When I say the above I mean I can see an image showing. I had the power supply board sent off to a repair shop but they are claiming it is working as normal. I am a bit stumped.

Not sure how to proceed.

@compjinxmagic absolutely possible. From my own experiences, this sounds, looks and smells like ;-)bad led backlights.

@oldturkey03 Thanks, unfortunately I made the mistake of shorting a 5v rail to a 12v so I fried the board. *facepalm*. Looking into buying a new one or sending this one off for repairs.

After taking more measurements with the multimeter before I messed up I saw the voltage was dropping when the backlight was supposed to be powered; only receiving 5v to the rail that starts @ 12v when first powered.

We have repaired this problem on AP7-U65s; we have LEDs and replacement power supplies in stock. The supply senses a bad LED and shuts down.

@tsvservice Where are you located in Western PA? I have 4 panels I need to fix and it may be worth drive.

This is caused by one or more of the backlight LEDs failing. The power supply senses this and shuts the backlight down. Replacing the LEDs and power supply is the solution.

Can you sell parts? I have the same issue

by

We have some LEDs in stock; we buy them online. We have several power supply boards, but usually find the LEDs are bad. The replacement is usually a 2 to 3 hour job for 2 people. Where are you?

I have three AP7-U65 with this issue in Weymouth, MA. Would you be willing to share the URL for the parts supplier?
