Are MacBook Pro 13" 2019 and 2020 speakers compatible for replacement?

Hi, I have two MacBook Pro 13" models—one from 2019 (A1989) and one from 2020 (A2251). The 2020 model has speaker issues, and I’m considering replacing its speakers with ones from the 2019 model. I couldn’t find any specific information on whether the speakers are compatible between these two models. However, I noticed that several marketplaces sell the same speaker replacements for both years. Can anyone confirm if the speakers are interchangeable? Thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

This is a bit confusing as Apple has four speakers in these systems.

In the 2018/19 systems two are the same 2018/19 Speakers.

In the 2020 (2251) model we have a similar setup where two speakers are shared the other two are not 2020 Speakers

So… The smaller Tweeter speakers are the same, the larger Woofer are not the same!

@livfe - Laptops are a case of compromises! As you alter one area there is little room for the other. Here we have the battery competing with the speakers. I’m suspecting the speakers needed a width adjustment.

Thank you for answer! Do you know why some markerplace sells one set of speakers for these two different mac models? (A1989 and A2251)

For example amazon: https://a.co/d/58byPOK

Even in ifixit I can’t see differences

@andreyyakir - As I noted the physical size of the Woofer speaker was likely changed as the space within the system is only so big. It’s also possible the internals were changed improving sound quality.

I haven’t needed to replace the speakers in these models so I don’t know which is the physically larger or which has the larger space.

The quality of the sound might be different, so do you chance it?
