3ds randomly turns its self on and off and unresponsive power button

My 3DS randomly enters the sleep mode menu, and whether I return to HOME or sleep, it will instantly go to a black screen without the powering down animation, and 5-10 seconds later, the power light goes out. There is no pattern, and sometimes it behaves normally, but the power button is unresponsive and refuses to turn on/off. I've checked the button, and it is clear. I've cleaned the circuits, and there appears to be no damage besides minor corrosion on the screen's frame, but nothing on the board.

Answer this question I have this problem too

I figuired out the issue, the back of the board were the battery is held had a small bit of corrosion shorting the two power contact terminals.

Hey mate, did cleaning the corrosion fix it? I’ve got the same issue and I’m stuck for ideas, wanting to know if it’s worth pulling it apart. Greatly appreciate any help :)

bad battery

bad ribbon cable to top screen, this is a common one.

connection failure in the button itself causing intermittent contact forcing a shut down

unseen corrosion

hairline damage to components from drops.

google around for a shop near you that fixes small electronics if you cant figure it out maybe somebody else can. good luck.

As you can see from this teardown picture from iFixit, the power button is located on this smaller board where the ABXY buttons are also located, connected to the motherboard by ribbon cables.

From your description it seems that the 3ds is detecting a constant press on the power button, as after 5-10 seconds it would shut off(continuously pressing the power button on any model of the 3ds lineup would cause the console to shut down). And the button itself works fine. So the problem might be in the ribbons or the ZIF connector on the motherboard. Try replacing theABXY daughterboard and clean the ZIF socket on the motherboard with alcohol and a soft toothbrush. If that doesn't work, then it might be corrosion somewhere else on the motherboard. Let's just hope that's not the case.
