Are i5 and i7 logic boards the same?

Are i5 and i7 logic boards in the 27" imacs the same? i know that the i5 uses the 661-5429 p/n and the i7 the 661-5428 p/n but are they interchangeable?

Do they have the same sockets?

Thanks.

There seems to be a debate on this. Cole John seems to have done an i5 to i7 upgrade. See this question: Can you replace the i5 processor with an i7?

I have not found any where that says the logic boards are interchangeable.

Thanks for that, it seams that the i7 cpu will accept the i5 logic board but i'm just wondering if the i5 board will be compatible will everything else from the i7 machine.

Im looking for a new logic board for my i7 machine i can get an i5 board for about $400 which is half of what the i7 would cost me, thats why i'm asking.

Thanks.

I'd check with Apple and see what a "flat rate", repair would cost. Apple really doesn't try to make a profit on these repairs. They would rather keep you happy as a customer. Why do you think the logic board has failed (this is very, very rare on this new of a machine.
