Laptop warns it does not fully support aftermarket batteries
It boots, but battery status always shows 100%. Battery options like low battery mode not supported.
Is there a workaround for this?

You'd have to pioneer this experiment, but you could take a page from the iPhone repair playbook and transfer the BMS (Battery Management System) from the original battery to the replacement. There's absolutely no reason why the BMS won't work with any cell(s) that's attached to it, so the only real issue is mechanical; you'll have to untape the BMS and cut it off from the battery terminals then reconnect it to the new cell either by soldering or preferably spot welding.
The one problem I see would be in terms of software. With the iPhones there are programmers and devices that can reset the battery health information (health percentage from 0 to 100 and cycle count), but I have no idea if that's at all possible with a Lenovo battery. So chances are whatever health reporting is available will continue to report whatever the old battery was at, but that shouldn't affect the operation of the battery in any way.

The individual battery cells are all connected to a long circuit board. I'm guessing that the management software is on that board.
I'd have to totally rebuild the new battery. Not sure that would work.
Any downsides to having the battery not recognized?
It did charge fully (orange charging light is now off).
I would not recommend buying this battery.
You have no battery management functions and no idea how much charge is in the battery.
@rickhantz One alternative we haven't discussed yet is the possibility that your battery is defective. It's not a common occurrence, but it does happen. Might be worth your time to discuss the issues you're having with the seller and see if they have any suggestions; it's possible you just got a bad one and they could offer a replacement.
